TLDR Review: iLiving 14" Wall Mounted Exhaust Fan
Verdict
The iLiving 14" Wall Mounted Shutter Exhaust Fan delivers strong, efficient ventilation with smart temperature and humidity controls, making it a solid choice for garages, coops, sheds, and similar spaces. Its reliable thermostat and variable speed allow energy savings and decent noise management, though you’ll need to be prepared for some manual adjustments and a bit of DIY installation care. If you want settings saved through outages or a bug screen included, you might need to look elsewhere, but this unit balances performance and features well for its price and purpose. If you want a fan with more advanced memory settings or a more integrated thermostat sensor, consider exploring other smart exhaust fans, but for durable, automatic ventilation with good airflow, this one shines.
- Top pro:
- Provides excellent airflow, making it ideal for ventilating small to medium enclosed spaces like chicken coops, sheds, or garages.
- Top con:
- The maximum temperature setting tops out at 99°F, which may limit use for those needing higher trigger thresholds.
Pros
- •Provides excellent airflow, making it ideal for ventilating small to medium enclosed spaces like chicken coops, sheds, or garages.
- •Features a temperature sensor and humidity controls for smarter, automated operation.
- •Variable speed settings allow you to adjust airflow and noise level to your preference.
- •The thermostat controller is straightforward to configure and works reliably in automatically activating the fan at set temperatures (e.g., 82°F).
- •Solid, durable build quality with a reliable DC motor rated at 1200 CFM and 1600 RPM.
- •Installation is manageable as a DIY project with clear instructions and fits between standard wall studs, provided you cut the correct size hole.
- •The fan runs quieter than many cheaper alternatives, producing mostly background white noise rather than disruptive sound.
- •Low current draw (~0.65A) simplifies electrical wiring needs.
- •Automatic shutter closes well when the fan is off, preventing drafts and critters, supported by a safety cage behind the fan for protection.
- •The unit includes a temperature and humidity sensor with variable speed control for energy-efficient ventilation.
Cons
- •The maximum temperature setting tops out at 99°F, which may limit use for those needing higher trigger thresholds.
- •The thermostat controller lacks memory backup and requires you to reset temperature settings after every power outage or unplugging.
- •Temperature readings can be inconsistent due to the thermostat/control panel being separate from the fan unit, sometimes requiring manual adjustment.
- •Mounting screws are not included, so you need to supply your own for installation.
- •Handling the fan and installation involves dealing with some sharp edges, requiring care during setup.
- •The thermostat display screen blanks after a few seconds, likely to save power, which might be inconvenient for constant monitoring.
- •It can be noisy at the highest speed setting, although still within a tolerable white noise range.
- •The fan lacks a bug screen; while louvers close firmly, this may be a concern in areas with many insects.
- •In smaller spaces, additional vents may be necessary to optimize airflow and avoid pressure imbalances.
- •Thermostat location on the control panel—not at the fan itself—may not suit all installation preferences.
